Moving Images around in ACDsee

Lets create some folders and move some images

Moving Images

Moving images in ACDsee is very easy. Simply right-click on an image and select Move-to or use the keyboard shortcut Alt-M and a dialogue box will appear asking you to define a destination for the image. Browse to the destination folder and hit OK in the dialogue box.

Be cautious when moving files around. Typically, I only move an image if I no longer need it in the folder where it currently resides. If you are ever in doubt about whether you should move or copy an image, COPY the image rather than Move.

Creating New Folders

When I select Alt-M to move an image and a dialogue box appears asking me to define a destination, I have the option to create a new folder. If I have not already created a folder that I would like to use, I can do it now by selecting Create Folder.

Copy vs Move

I am a sucker for the Copy-to command. When I am selecting Top Picks I use the Copy-to command and this creates a second copy of the images so that now there are two identical images in separate folders. In this way, I am not worried about somehow over-writing an image or accidentally deleting an image.

There are times however, when I am done working on a folder or I am trying to consolidate a number of different folders and I want to Move the images from one place on the hard drive to another. In these cases, I use the Move-To command rather than the Copy-To command.

Save As

We will spend more time on Saving images in upcoming lessons, but for now it is important to understand my GOLDEN RULE OF EDITING. The GOLDEN RULE OF EDITING is that you should never use the Save command. Always use SAVE AS. When you select Save As after editing a photo, ACDsee forces you to define a destination for the image and new file name. This is important so that you never make the mistake of overwriting an original file.
