Rename your images so that the name makes sense.

Renaming a single image

There are a couple of ways to rename a single image. First, right click on the image in the Manage Tab and then select Rename. The file name will then highlight in blue. You may now type the new file name.

The second option and easier method is to click on the name of the file in the Manage Tab. The file name will then highlight in blue and you can type the new name.

EXERCISE: Open a folder of images in the Manage Tab. Single click on the file name of one of your photos and type in a new file name. 

Renaming a group of images

Renaming a large group of images at the same time saves a lot of time however the process is a bit more involved. Use the keyboard shortcut CTRL A to select all the images in a folder. From the batch dropdown menu, select Rename. The Batch Rename dialogue box will open with several options for renaming.

Check the box Use Template to Rename Files and in the Template: box type in the desired file name that you would like your images to have. NOTE: Ensure that you have a series of # characters in the name of your file template. ACDSee will replace those # characters with numerals in the next step

Check Use Numbers to Replace #’s

Check Start at a Fixed Value, and set the value to 1. You can start at any number you like, I just find that 1 makes the most sense. If you are renaming photos to keep them in a sequence, you can enter the number that corresponds to your desired sequence.

On the right hand side of the screen you will see the old file name and the new file name listed. If it looks the way you want it to look then select Start Rename.

EXERCISE: With your top picks folder open, use CTRL A to select all of the images. Using the steps above, rename the images with the subject of your photos (ie volleyball ##).
