Humour is always an effective tool for connecting with your audience
Humour can be hard to find. Children and pets are always great places to find a funny shot. Look for signage that will be in opposition to your subject for a good laugh. Weather can often provide good subject matter as well. We all look a little funny when we are soaking wet or covered in snow.
EXERCISE: Start with some easy humour shots. Take pics of your kids, your spouse, your parents. Anyone you know really well. Use a wide angle lens and get in very very close to them. Get inside their personal space. Force them to pose for you! They will be uncomfortable and thats when things get interesting. This is a great way to start the process of finding funny.
EXERCISE: Animals and signs are other great sources of humour. People put up funny signs all the time. Imagine a billboard for a church with a liquor store or a strip club in the background. Just like humans, animals that interact can be hilarious. If you can find animals of different species that play together, this can be charming and funny as well. Humour is hard and you need to really work at it.
